Another big change awaits us in 2015 as the search giant has taken cognizance of the market opportunities in the food ordering sector. The mobile users will soon get the option to order food directly from search results. Google has announced a new feature of search engine results that will make it easy for mobile users to quickly order food on the go.
According to Google, if users search for a restaurant on their mobile device, they would be shown an additional option of placing the order within the search results. However this would only be the case if the restaurant is integrated with Eat24, Delivery.com, MyPizza.com, or BeyondMenu.
Tapping on “Place an order button” will ask the users, their preferred choice of food delivery platform and take them to chosen network there by quickly placing an order for their favorite meal.Currently Google has partnered with top six food delivery platforms only, but is looking to expand the reach in the near future. As of now, it is available to US users only.
Although this feature is quite nifty, yet we are forced to reflect upon following inferences:
- What if a restaurant is not integrated with these food delivery services?
Google makes it imperative for all restaurants to be listed with at least one of the six food delivery services in order to get benefits of this feature.
- Will the food delivery services that are not supported in this update loose consumer base?
Even if the top providers are integrated to it, the smaller and less known ones are likely to wait. Google says, it will add more of food delivery services in future but till then the business of platforms other than Seamless, Eat24, GrubHub etc. may get affected.
Inclusion of online food delivery market to search results is another action that manifests Google’s topmost goal i.e. to enhance mobile searches in 2015. Mobile users usually search for nearby restaurants, so this action is pertinent to its goal.
The good news is that if you are looking forward to start a new online business, investing in food ordering would be the best thing to do. With Google’s move of bringing food delivery portals to search results, the opportunities as well as the scale of industry is going to rise in near future. So, now is the time when you can start creating a website like Seamless, Eat24, GrubHub, Delivery.com, MyPizza.com, or BeyondMenu. Online food delivery portals are soon going to act like a local search engine for restaurants.
