If you love G-talk, then, it’s time to say last goodbyes. Google’s popular instant messenger is shutting down on February 26, 2015, and its services will be merged with Google Hangouts, its much advanced but less popular IM (instant messaging) cousin.
The G-talk shutdown news was apparent for quite a while since the app was no longer available on Google, and people looking for it were directed to Google Hangouts instead.
Google is known for killing popular products for its bigger plans. Here is what will be the cause of G-talk shutdown:
With its advanced features, it was clear that Google Hangouts is the future of Google’s IM services. But popularity of WhatsApp and other instant messengers was the last nail in G-talk’s coffin. While millions of G-talk users are still reluctant to switch to Hangouts, Google had to make the decision of closing down G-talk once and all, and offer all its services through Google Hangouts.
Millions of users throughout the world will surely be affected by the closure. People love G-talk for its simple user interface and intuitive functionality. But now that the app is on its way to the graveyard, people will be forced to switch to Google Hangouts. Google also announced that the IM services on Hangouts will only be available via Google Chrome web browser.
While G-talk takes its last breaths, tell us your reaction on Google’s decision, and how the G-talk closure will affect your business and personal life.
